A second state authority (Secretary of State) verifies the signature of the first level state authority (notary public). This is called an apostille or legalization
Please note: The type of authentication will depend on the entity that will receive the documents.
If the country where the document will be used is party to the Hague Convention, an apostille will be affixed. In cases where the country that document will be used in not, the Secretary of State will affix an authentication, and the document will then need to be legalized.
